The Hungkuang counseling and volunteer team has assisted the Nantou County Association of Parents of People with Intellectual Disabilities in organizing the “Independent Living Support and Care Camp for People with Intellectual Disabilities” for 11 consecutive years. Accompanying this group known as the “Angel Farmers” with intellectual disabilities, they carried out activities such as “Sun Moon Lake Water Area Island Exploration, Red Tea Cultural Experience, and Jiujiu Peak Getting Close to Animals” over three days filled with positive energy.
18 volunteers utilized the concepts of “independent living support” and “strengthening advantages” to accompany 27 “Angel Farmers” in experiencing “getting close to cute penguins, toucans, red-crowned cranes, peacocks, alpacas, sika deer, and miniature horses” and feeding them, as well as “Sun Moon Lake island exploration stories and puzzles” and “tea making, tea serving, tea tasting, and purchasing food independently”.
During the reflection and learning time, chief volunteer Tseng Kaini and Shi Yian shared: “We saw the courage of the adults with disabilities increase over the three days as they were encouraged to try learning new things, their cooperation improved, and they actively participated in various experiential activities, making all the hard preparation worthwhile”. Director Chang Yuhsueh presented certificates of appreciation, saying: “Through this summer camp activity, the attendees obtained more life experiences, including boat rides and interacting with animals. They learned to love animals and respect life. We thank the Hungkuang counseling and volunteer team for their long-term caring company. Because of you, the lives of the Angel Farmers are more wonderful. We look forward to seeing you again next year”.
